IN3 - Internet Interdisciplinary Institute, Universitat Oberta de Cataluña

| The Universitat Oberta de Cataluña (UOC) is an example of the revolutionary advantages offered by the information age to meet the changing needs of society in relation to education and training. By combining the latest technologies, personal computers and multimedia with both a solid pedagogical foundation and continuous evaluation, the UOC has built a Virtual Campus - that is, an electronic communications environment that provides the means to effectively support the tutoring of students, and the provision of university resources and social activities. The UOC was created in 1995 to meet the needs of a rapidly growing sector of the population unable to attend traditional universities. This need may arise for any number of reasons, from hectic schedules to physical handicaps, or for the simple reason that one prefers a more flexible environment than an attendance-based university can offer. Currently 16 main degree programs are offered, as well as education and training programs in other areas of education and training such as in-company training, extension university courses, postgraduate courses and a Doctorate Programme. Research has been a vitally important issue, that is why the UOC has created a single institute, the IN3 (Internet Interdisciplinary Institute), that is an interdisciplinary research centre, which focuses on the effects, uses and applications of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in different aspects of knowledge and society. www.uoc.edu |
